Turkish Deputy Minister sees hope for a Turkish Eurovision return!
Turkish Deputy Minister and President of the Turkish delegation of the European Union Christian Berger made a livestream on YouTube and Periscope later today. Among several questions there was also a question about the possible return of Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Faruk Kaymakci answered to the question if Turkey will return to the competition and if talks with TRT has been made. Mr. Kaymakci stated:
« Turkey actually participated at Eurovision for many years and we even won once. I hope we will join the Eurovision again. TRT saw some problems in the past but I am sure that we will see Turkey in Eurovision in the next years.“
Mr. Kaynakci also pointed out that the decision is solely taken by TRT, the Turkish national broadcaster which is responsible for Turkeys participation at Eurovision:
« Of course this is not my decision, maybe TRT will discuss their problems with the EBU and maybe we will see great songs with great messages at Eurovision from Turkey.“
Turkey does not participate at Eurovision since 2013 because of the dissatisfaction with the voting method and the Big 5 rule.
