The votIng system of the EurovIsIon Song Contest wIll RemaIn unchanged!
Ms. Maria Koufopoulou, ERT’s Director of International Relations recently gave an interview where she gave details about the current situation of how Greece will select its entry and about the Eurovision meeting, which was held in September.
Ms. Koufopoulou stated that Greek broadcaster ERT didn’t decide yet how they will select the Greek entrant for next years competition. However she pointed out, that the broadcaster is open both for a national final or an internal selection.
During the interview Ms. Koufopoulou also stated that a meeting was held in September where members of different delegations took part. During the meeting a voting was held in which the broadcasters could vote whether they want to keep the current voting system of the competition or if they would like to change it. Some different voting systems were on the table but according to Ms. Koufopoulou, 80% of the delegations decided to keep the current 50% jury, 50% televote voting system. She stated:
“80% voted not to change the voting system. I participated in the Workshop, along with my two colleagues, and there was the question of whether EBU members were satisfied with the current voting system.”
Discussions about a possible new voting method raised after the raising amount of mistakes which were made in the jury voting in recent years. The EBU however will most probably keep the voting system as the majority of the delegations are satisfied how it is.
