Sietse Bakker gives more information about “Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light”

THE SHOW MUST GO ON…Sietse Bakker, the Executive Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 took part in a talk show tonight where he talked about the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, the alternative Eurovision broadcast “Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light” and also about next years competition. The EBU has confirmed that it will broadcast “Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light” instead of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. Sietse confirmed tonight that 13-14 countries will broadcast the alternative show live, he stated:“We have only just recovered from the shock, it is canceled. That means that we still have to do all kinds of things to settle it and at the same time we are working on this program. So many calls to artists, broadcasters, people who have to help us with this. We get a lot of support. That is nice to see, but we really have a long way to go to get this under construction before May 16.”The alternative show will be hosted by Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit. The show will last for 2 hours and will provide a platform for the 41 artists to give a speech about how things are going in their respective countries. The show will be held in Hilversum.Speaking about next years competition, Sietse states:“It is a very crazy time, we hardly know what will happen next week in the Netherlands, in Europe and the world. Everyone is very positive, but a lot needs to be done. It is not a game of football that you can move for a while. Ahoy must be available, we need all those hotel rooms again. And of course it also means something financially. We have now said: let us first focus on that 16 May and at the same time remain in discussion with the parties about what we can do next year. Everyone really wants it: the broadcasters, the EBU, Rotterdam … and we just deserved it, eh last year.”ARE YOU EXCITED FOR THE ALTERNATIVE EUROVISION BROADCAST? EBU will broadcast “Europe Shine A Light” instead of Eurovision 2020

EUROPE – GET READY TO SHINE!The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 might be cancelled but the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will broadcast “Europe Shine A Light” on 16th May at 21:00 CET instead of Eurovision. Thomas Schreiber, head of entertainment at the German national broadcaster ARD confirmed the news to DWDL.de:“On the 16th May, there will be a big European event even without the ESC: ‘Europe Shine A Light’. 40 European countries and Australia will come together.”However Thomas Schreiber confirmed that there will be no voting because of actuarial reasons:“The event will not be a ESC with a voting but it will bring Europe together at that night, it’s made so that the fans are not left alone and it will give the artists a platform.”However, Thomas Schreiber is not very happy about the format as the presentation of the participating countries of Eurovision 2020 will fail briefly, he continues:“I find it difficult if Germany, as one of the biggest European countries, would decide not to participate at an event to unite Europe, that’s why we decided to take part and we support the event now even though we would like to have some things differently, and would have wished to give more room for each of the artists.”WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT EBU’S ALTERNATIVE PLAN FOR EUROVISION 2020?
